And...we're back! In our new episode of Archimest In The Making podcast Dini and I discuss our thoughts and experiences of sitting under the imposter syndrome umbrella. There’s always a mixture of relief and dread during our studies about the next stages - getting hired by a firm. For some, it was relatively straightforward in meeting those expectations. However, for me and Shaun, we graduated during the period in which our industry suffered economically, which resulted in us spending nearly two years (or more) finding ‘employment’ within the architecture industry. Of course, keeping our hopes up wasn't easy - and when plan a didn’t work out for us, what were our plan b’s or c’s? And of course, during our lowest moments, did we consider giving up altogether?

Starting Season 4 of the podcast, we’re looking at what it means to be passionate about something. Too often, the word is flounced around a lot - and it’s difficult to affirm whether you are passionate about something by your actions. You can be passionate about a subject and admire it from afar, otherwise allow yourself to be consumed by it…

In this episode, Eastina and I will be exploring our perceptions on what it takes to be passionate about something… and whether we think we’re passionate about what we’re doing now.

A year later and here we are again. Dini and I are back looking at our architecture journey in 2020 as well as reflecting back to our very first recording. Of course, second-year of architecture school makes you realise a lot of things, but then, when we take our time to look back on our past, we realise how far we’ve come.

One fateful night in September 2020 - I received a message from a friend who I haven’t heard from six years - who was bursting with ideas about a potential podcast collaboration. Well, two phone calls later, Jina and I established ‘Is This What You Wanted?’, a project that has continued for a busy 5 months. Now that we’ve reached the end - we decided to look back on our journey that has shifted our outlooks and thoughts towards our profession. What were our highlights? Lowlights? And is this what we wanted?

Words are really powerful - especially when a single thought can completely switch your career choices. This was the case with Daniel Moore - after a comment made towards his initial dreams, he switched to studying performance and architecture. But what happens when you’ve got two areas of interest? How do you combine them? Join us as Daniel shares with us the influences from his childhood and hobbies that has enabled him to combine two interests together!

We’ve all heard of that saying ‘the worst response is a no, so what’s the harm in trying?’. A quick glance on Dezeen’s job notice board and an email later, Jina’s friend Tracy Sodder found herself working for BIG (yes, Bjarke Ingels Group) as their visualiser in New York. From one country to another, Tracy shares with us her transition as well as the decisions that led to this fateful opportunity.

As we’d like to put it We’d rather regret something that we’ve done than something we haven’t done.

There are many ways to share and learn about architecture. Of course, the best way to learn about a project is to see it in person and to discuss and share ideas! But what happens when this is intensified through travelling and seeing a huge amount of architecture in one day? Kevin Hüi (whom many of you would know as Archimarathon) shares with us his career development as well as turning his love for architecture travel that evolved into the beloved Archimarathon!
